Gift certificate tips

  • Dec. 3rd, 2008 at 8:21 AM

When all your gift ideas fail, go gift certificate! To help ensure the money goes back into the American economy, get the gift certificate from a place that primarily sells American Made products. Below are a few examples:

Book Stores
Grocery Store
Specialty food store
Restaurant
Music Store
Movie Store
Video game Store
Beauty product Store
Spa Service

In this situation, you might consider supporting the little guy by getting the gift certificate from a local small business, rather than a major chain. Small business is American Made!

  • Nov. 25th, 2008 at 6:39 PM

Just because the brand has a patriotic sounding name, it doesn't mean that the product is America Made. A couple popular examples: American Greeting Cards and American Living (J.C. Penny's clothing line);these brands are not Made in the U.S.A.. Always check the label.

Are you invited over to friends or family for Thanksgiving? Here are 5 American Made picks for your host's gift. Just a quick reminder how easy it is to be American Made!

Flowers
If you’re picking out a container arrangement, stick to clear glass vases; they are most likely American made.

Wine
My personal favorite is Sauvignon Blanc, a nice dry wine that goes well with everything Turkey. Another, more group friendly, option is White Zinfandel. Look for “Product of the U.S.A.” on the label or it may say “vinted and bottled at {name and location of winery}”

Chocolates
Godiva is my personal favorite. Most are American Made, just check the label.

Playing Cards
After stuffing yourself to the brim, playing cards is a favorite after dinner option. Bring your host a set deck of novelty cards for Texas hold’em or poker, that is if you can reach the table over your bulging belly.

Scented Candle
Most are American Made, just check the label.

And don't forget the Tums, also American Made!

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Happy Friday Everyone, welcome to the weekend! I'd like to try a weekly show and tell on Fridays.

My dad got a complete Michigan outfit for my son, all American Made, at a local store for the University of Michigan football team. Many of the products in the store (The M Den at Briarwood Mall in Ann Arbor, MI) were American Made. I wonder if that is common… Are most university sports’ products American Made? Do you know where your local university sports team merchandise is made?

What cool American Made product have you found recently? Post a photo if you have one!

American Made Introduction

  • Nov. 16th, 2008 at 10:18 AM

Hello and welcome to American Made, your hip, modern and fun guide to shopping for American manufactured products. My name is Dawn and I'm your friendly blogging host! I've created this blog in hopes to never hear the words "nothing is made in America anymore!" ever again. Over the last few years I've gathered a wealth of personal knowledge on how to shop American, and now I'm sharing it with you.

What can you expect in this blog
  • Cool, fun American made products that you would actually consider buying for yourself or as a gift.
  • An organized and easy to reference blog. I’m really good at tags. Use them to you advantage to find previous posts for specific age groups, sex and price ranges.
  • I know the fun of going to store and shopping, so I’ll reference as many in store products as possible. There is a wealth of knowledge and sources online for American made products, but it’s in the stores where we struggle most. I want you to be able to find some product ideas here, hit the print button and take the list to the mall. That’s why I will focus on as many in store products as possible along with products you can find online.

What you won’t find in this blog
  • Negative and slanderous Scare Tactis to twist your arm into being patriotic and environmentally conscious . You want to buy American made products, you know it’s good for American jobs and the economy, you know the quality of product is of a higher standard and you know that it reduces our carbon foot print to buy locally. You know, that’s why you here, and I’m glad for it. I have no need to bully you.

Let’s get started! Please jump in and comment with American Made products you that love! Together we can make a wonderful web source!
